Blackburn scored their first goals from open play this season as they overcame Millwall 2-0 in the Sky Bet Championship.
The hosts have found goals hard to find so much in Ewood Park but they put the worries to rest with an encouraging performance that saw them take the lead via a Derrick Williams piledriver in the half – his second of the year.
Tony Mowbray’s team had to weather some periods of dominance from their traffic that are competitive, however, the opportunities fell to Blackburn, who were denied a larger margin of victory by the Bartosz Bialkowski.
But Bradley Dack ‘s on guaranteed three points for Rovers who leapfrog their opponents at the league after extending their unbeaten run to eight against the Lions.
Millwall’s away form is an issue, extending to eight without a victory – the last of which came from March.
Mowbray handed John Buckley his first league start for Rovers, while the Neil Harris of Millwall failed for Jayson Molumby along with Jon Dadi Bodvarsson.
Both sides exchanged ancient long-range shots without a success however, also the hosts made the breakthrough in magnificent fashion in the 18th minute through an improbable source as the ball was played into the border of the region from Greg Cunningham and Williams charged onto it until hammering an unstoppable strike to the right-hand corner.
With Christian Walton being forced by Mahlon Romeo to a smart save the Lions responded to that setback, also Connor Mahoney’s inviting corner evading everybody.
However, Rovers had the opportunity to extend their lead when lovely footwork by Dack enabled him to slip the ball to Elliott Bennett but the Blackburn captain retreated his effort disappointingly wide.
he left two magnificent saves to keep his side in the competition millwall were indebted to Bialkowski in the second half.
He steered off Stewart Downing driveway, before making a much better save to thwart Adam Armstrong, repelling his campaign after the striker had bundled into a one-on-one.
Ryan Leonard needed the hosts when the ball was played with him 20 yards away but he couldn’t really keep his campaign 29, worried 18 minutes .
And then Rovers made certain of the things at the 74th minute, ending a period of joint strain using a nice low ball across the face of the target from Darragh Lenihan and Dack was on hand to tap into his third of the year in the back post.
As Rovers broke in pace, bialkowski made another save 12 minutes and the precise shot of Joe Rothwell seemed destined for the bottom corner for the goalkeeper’s outstretched arm to deny him.
