South Africa was led by A hat-trick of tries from Makazole Mapimpi into a comfy 41-7 victory over Japan on Friday in their final World Cup warm-up game, laying down a tournament mark and gaining revenge for defeat three decades ago.
Winger Cheslin Kolbe started the scoring with a neat conclusion on seven minutes, before Mapimpi ran in two simple tries in the other flank since the Springboks assembled a lead at half-time at Kumagaya.
Further attempts from Kolbe along with Mapimpi a closing flourish in Herschel Jantjies secured success along with either side of Kotaro Matsushima’s consolation and helped soothe Japans’ memory famous win at the 2015 World Cup.
Until South Africa begin their campaign against reigning champions japan must search for improvement in their World Cup opener against Russia on September 20.
