Ole Gunnar Solskjaer stays convinced Manchester United can persuade a new contract to be signed by David de Gea, despite still and prolonged talks no breakthrough.
Reports in the end of last season maintained the Spain goalkeeper was close to signing up a deal that was new but Solskjaer has admitted he is in the dark regarding the discussions have grown since then.
De Gea’s current deal expires at the end of the year and Solskjaer believes the 28-year-old, whom he considers”the best’keeper in the world”, wants to remain at Old Trafford – but within just four weeks’ time, he can start to go over contracts with overseas clubs.
“I’m quite – well – I am pretty confident it’ll get sorted. He is said anything to me other than that he adores this bar and would like to remain here, and he has had a fantastic time,” Solskjaer said before the Premier League visit of Leicester on Saturday.
“You will need to ask David along with the club [how conversations are moving ]. I have been included in the talks. So let’s just hope we put it on the line.
“He can see what we’re doing here. We would like the players and those we want – all this time – stay. There aren’t many that we would like to maintain that we don’t manage to.
“I am confident we’ll can convince David that here is the future for him – and a successful future.”
Solskjaer triumphed goalkeepers given the doubt over the near of Dea Gea are being scouted by United – however insists he is happy with his goalkeeping section.
“We are constantly mindful of occurring around the world [with other goalkeepers] – but my focus and also the club’s focus is always to persuade him (De Gea) to stay,” he said.
“I’ve got two very excellent backup keepers here in Lee (Grant) and Sergio (Romero), and Dean (Henderson) is outside loan [at Sheffield United]. The goalkeeper department is in great health.
“Whenever David declares a goal, it is headlines, that he should have saved it. Whenever a match is lost by us – and we’ve lost only one since July 1 – it seems like we are really fighting. That’s just the way it is here and you need to manage it. You’ve got to be resilient and have strong confidence.
“David’s fine. I do not fret about him whatsoever.”
